New designs!

•May 1, 2007 • 6 Comments

It’s that time again and I am glad to present four new designs, three biscornus and one needleroll.

Something Blue

Spring is time for love, romance, pastel colous and, of course, weddings! And after today spring is also time for ring biscornus.

This design is distantly related to Ring of Roses series so you can notice some rather familiar elements in it.
Originally it was designed just as a biscornu, but as it is a bit big (unless you stitch it on higher count fabric) and it reminded me of weddings I thought There are ring pillows, so why not a ring biscornu?. Hence this finishing.

(By the way, models used are my late engagement and wedding rings.)

Protection

Most of you know Xs and Os as hugs and kisses, but in Nordic symbolism XO motifs have been used in knitted sweaters to protect fishermen while at sea.

I have also seen these motifs in borders of Islamic prayer rugs, which leads to conclusion that this is a globally used symbol combination.

Our model is stitched over one.

Ia! Ia!

Ia! Ia! Cthulhu fhtagn!

Let those tentacles guide you: stitch this to your inner geek, geeky friend or the geek of your life.

This design is dedicated to H.P. Lovecraft.

Thistle Square Needleroll

An expansion to Periphaeria Designs’ finishing methods: needleroll.

Last, but not least

I have a new complimentary design up. It is designed for my my mother for Mother’s Day (it is 2nd Sunday of May in Lady’s part of the world) – but I am sure you will find also other uses for it, for example Valentine’s Day.

P.S. If you haven’t received your copy of newsletter check your trash folder, it may be there (Lady’s test message went to Gmail’s spam folder earlier today…)

And we have a winner!

…actually five of them.
Designer Treasure Hunt’s results are up at One Star’s Light. Congratulations to our lucky and knowledgeable winners, it was a good hunt! :)

When it comes to new domain I worked with thingies almost whole Friday and I can promise you that there will be nice addition to Periphaeria Designs’ site in May 1st… so, stay tuned. ;)

New domain!

•April 27, 2007 • Leave a Comment

Yes, I broke down last night and registered a domain and got myself paid hosting.
I will be working to move the site to its rightful place over the weekend (I need to rewrite it partially) so there’s nothing interesting to see yet, but now it’s time to update your bookmarks as new site is up 1st of May!

New url is, not surprisingly, Periphaeria.com.
I have also installed WordPress there and am planning to move this blog there – once I get it running. :)

Is it just me…

…who is having problems connect to Sitesled?

I have begun to seriously consider registering a domain and getting a decent host. Anyone have any good, reasonably priced suggestions?

My first mistake!

•April 13, 2007 • Leave a Comment

Echoes of a Squared Lotus had a minor mistake in the main chart.

Errata

Look at the left side of EoaSL, spot middle stitch and count 15 stitches from it. You probably see this:
Mistake in EoaSL

You should be seeing this:
Corrected EoaSL

This is also noted in PD’s Oopsie! page. I apologize for the incovenience.
And: Thank you Leena for spotting this!

It’s raining… retailers!

I am happy to announce you that Periphaeria Designs has new retailer: HollieStitch!

HollieStitch is located in Hertfordshire, UK and carries designs from several designers, which now includes Periphaeria Designs.
You can purchase my designs through HollieStitch as *.pdf files and at the moment they carry all my designs. I have also included finishing instructions to all my current designs, so from now on you get short written finishing instruction with every design – and if you prefer pictures I have begun to collect links to illustrated finishing methods. At the moment there’s only one link, but it covers all my designs for the time being. ;)

And last but not least, I’d like to thank mr. and mrs. Rich for their help with the biscornu instruction. :)

It’s decided then

•April 3, 2007 • 2 Comments

I will be writing finishing instructions to be added in future designs (and to already published designs). I am not going to add to the price of current designs, but I will change my plan of pricing basis a bit to compensate the time I spend on writing (it takes time as I have to write them in language foreign to me).

Thank you all for the feedback. :)

Otherwise… deadline is closing too fast, but I have four models stitched at this moment so I can promise you at least four new designs (with some luck five, but as fifth is based on a finishing technique I have never tried it may turn out to be a catastrophe).

I have also managed to design my first big one (biggest to date for me) and hope to find suitable floss for it (I find it difficult to decide what colour I’d like to use or should I try to go out of my comfort zone and make it multicoloured) soon so I’d get into model stitching in near future, as, due its size, it will take some time to finish.

I have a question for you

•March 30, 2007 • 4 Comments

Would you find it better to have finishing instructions accompany all the designs (finishing instruction for the method I have finished the design with), have them as separate items (which would then probably include colour pictures to clarify my blabbering, but would also cost something) or are you happy with current state of affairs?

Leave a comment, help me to decide and make stitching experience nicer for you. :)

European retailer!

•March 25, 2007 • 6 Comments

I am happy to announce you new retailer of Periphaeria Designs designs: Violarium.

Violarium is Periphaeria’s exclusive Finnish, and at this moment also only European, distributor, and can be found from northern parts of Finland.
Though, you shouldn’t let Violarium’s location scare you: Violarium ships internationally (with an extremely reasonable price) and provides customer service also in English.
As an old customer I can recommend Violarium to all of you as their customer service is great and their selection has some curiosities which are difficult to find from you generic ONS.

Lady has also designed an exclusive complimentary design for Violarium’s customers. It is available in Finnish and in English, so if you are after curiosities… do pop by at Violarium and say Hello from me! :)

Also…

Are you a fan of Periphaeria Designs (of course you are ;) ) and want to share the love? On Angela’s request Lady made a little banner to be used in blog sidebars and other suitable places. Feel free to grab it to your use (and remember: hotlinking is not a good habit! Please, ‘net is full of free photohosting services so grab the link or save the image and move it to your preferred photohosting site).

I am humbled.

•March 14, 2007 • 2 Comments

…by the good reception of my designs.
Success of my designs during these two weeks has exceeded even my wildest dreams.

Thank you all, every single one of you, for the support you show for my style, for my talent and the work, devotion and love I put in my designs, by purchasing them.
I hope you enjoy stitching them as much as I enjoy designing them. :)

In progress

•March 6, 2007 • 3 Comments

Life has returned to its peaceful pace and Lady is more or less glued next to her drawing board armed with a mug full of fresh, strong coffee and good music.
There are two new series beginning later this year. There’s still lots of work to do with both, but I can promise (with 99.9% certainty) that first design from both of them will be published before 2007 ends – of course I will work on the one I have already started, which is Ring of Roses, and there will be individual designs too (which may, or may not, grow to be series too – you never know).

And, I can promise that in my next design update (1st of May) will be one idea which I am quite proud of. To give vague description it’s regular stitcher’s tool rethinked – and I am itching to start the stitching! (Rhymes….)

Admittedly this is one of those days when I wish I had few extra pair of hands so I could work on all the designs I want, and design at the same time. Apparently you can’t always win.

1st, but not last, retailer

•March 1, 2007 • 3 Comments

I heard they got the catastrophe solved so… Let me introduce you my first retailer!

One Star’s Light Needlework Supplies is located in PA, USA and is run by a friend of mine, so I dare to recommend her.
She sells my designs in printed and *.pdf form, and in addition to that she stocks all kinds of wonderful hand-dyeds which are made for my designs!

There is another reason for you to try her: I have designed an exclusive freebie for her.

Otherwise it has been a grand day. I have sold my first designs and I have also been negotiating with to-be retailer of mine, so, in one of these days I will also have one distributor in Europe.
Not to forget all those wonderful comments I have got. Thank you all, they are very much appreciated. :)

P.S. Admittedly I spent few minutes by getting my kicks out of this: Periphaeria Designs@OSL.
